Powdered Glass and Its Uses

Ben Caldwell Artist is the result of crushed glass being milled in a ball mill and separated from the larger pieces by sieving. Due to its hardness and sharp edges, glass is one of the more difficult materials to grind. Durable, field-proven, and highly reliable equipment is required to process glass as finely as possible. Hosokawa Micron Powder Systems offers a number of Alpine glass milling solutions including the Super-Orion ball mill in circuit with an air classifier for the production of high quality, ultra-fine glass powder.

Innovative Sculpting Techniques with Powdered Glass and Intense Heat

Glass is a versatile and economical material that can be used to add strength, improve workability, and/or accelerate the setting time of concrete. Incorporating waste glass (rejected cullet) as a replacement of up to 60% of cement in mortar and concrete is a great way to reduce the cost and environmental impact of constructing new structures. Incorporating glass in these products also allows for the use of lower embodied energy, and is an excellent substitute for sand in applications where granular aggregates are desired.

In murder mysteries and idle conversation, it is often suggested that secretly grinding up some finely powdered glass and surreptitiously adding it to the food of a prospective victim could be an effective means of causing their death. However, this method is usually dismissed as a foolish and ineffective attempt at trickery. It is far more likely that the victim would immediately realize something was amiss with their meal, and would quickly seek a physician to inquire about the sudden, unexplained bleeding from their stomach and intestines.
